Session II:  Program Dates and Information 

 

Dates: July 12th - July 23rd, 2021

Length: Two weeks

Time: Each courses' schedule varies from Monday to Thursday, two hours per day. Some courses are held in the morning session and others in the afternoon session.

  • Morning session: 9:00 A.M. - 11:00 A.M.
  • Afternoon session: 2:00 P.M. - 4:00 P.M.

ModalityOnline and 1 hybrid course. Due to continued safety concerns surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, the Summer Pre-University program will be taught an online modality, except for 3D Printing.

Fees: $200 each course

Description:

Independence, responsibility, organization, facing challenges, self-discovery, and having fun are some words that can describe college life. How do you balance it all? Through short lectures, discussion, activities, and reflection, this short course provides you with an understanding of what to expect during this next phase after high school. By the end of the course, you should be able to:

  • Compare high school experiences and academic expectations with those of college
  • Recognize the value of balancing academic, social, and personal or family elements
  • Identify key personal values and goals that can direct your actions over the next few years
Instructor: Aubrey Madler
Aubrey Madler has a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education, a Master of Science degree in Library Science, and is nearing the completion of her Doctoral program in Teaching & Learning. She comes to TTU and the pre-university courses with over 20 years of experience, including teaching information literacy and literary analysis.

Description:
This course is comprised of a short review of high school chemistry and a preview of college chemistry. The students acquire the math and chemistry skills needed to succeed in general chemistry courses. Learning activities include lectures, problem-solving sessions, lab sessions, and homework assignments.
 
Instructor: Alberto Jimenez, Ph.D.
Dr. Jimenez has been the chemistry instructor at TTU-Costa Rica since 2018. He earned his Ph.D. in organic chemistry from Colorado State University and has a Licenciate in chemistry from the University of Costa Rica. He worked in drug discovery projects at Emory University and the National Biodiversity Institute of Costa Rica.

Description:
We are experiencing a new industrial revolution directed towards digitized creation processes and tailor-made production. With digital manufacturing, designs are generated by means of a computer, which are later transformed into real objects with the help of subtractive or additive manufacturing technologies. 3D printers are increasingly accesible and can revolutionize the mechanisms of production, consumption and trade. In digital manufacturing, user-tailored design changes the perspectives of freight transport, warehousing, and large-scale manufacturing.
In this course, the participant will learn to prepare files in STL format, to configure 3D printing parameters and to use FDM and SLA additive manufacturing technologies.
 
Instructor: Roilán Gutiérrez
Roilán Gutiérrez is a specialist in technology management and advanced manufacturing for the metalworking industry, where he has more than 16 years of experience. He is passionate about sports, manufacturing technologies, and designing and collaborating towards the development of socially innovative and impactful projects.

Description:
Developing a successful marketing strategy begins with knowing your audience. What do your potential consumers look like? What are their interests? What are their goals? What motivates them to purchase your product? This course is designed to teach students the principles of marketing and the basis of creating a well-rounded marketing strategy through the understanding of consumer behavior.
 
Instructor: Laura Barrera
Laura Barrera has a Bachelor's Degree in Marketing and Advertising and a Master's in Communications. She has over 10 years of industry experience in marketing strategic planning and teaching, and currently serves as Director of Marketing and Recruitment at Texas Tech University-Costa Rica.
