This course is for accounting and finance professionals who want to increase their competency and accuracy in English for accounting. By the end of this course, students will gain an understanding of and be able to translate and produce financial statements in English.
Knowledge of accounting and finance terms in Spanish and an intermediate-high level of English. (level: B1 minimum). Students must take an English placement exam to be part of this program, please click here to access the test.
Classes will be held via Teams or Zoom. The course consists of 9 meetings, 2 hours each. Classes will be held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5:30-7:30 from February 16th -- March 16th.
Plan to spend an estimated 1-2 hours a week in addition to attending the online classes in order to complete the asynchronous work for the course. Note: these times are an estimation as each person may need more/less time depending on multiple factors.
Classes will be a mix of discussions, vocabulary building exercises, listening exercises, speaking in groups, and individual or pair presentations. Students may also bring authentic texts from their professional settings. In addition to participating in class discussions and activities, participants are expected to complete all assignments. All instruction and materials will be in English.

Mary Beck has a Master's in International Education from Framingham State University in Massachusetts and a BA in Spanish from the University of California, Irvine. She has over 20 years of teaching experience at various private institutions in Costa Rica with students of all ages. Her experience also includes on-site corporate English classes.
